Honeymoon in Ooty
Referred as the "Queen of Hill Stations", Ooty is a very
popular hill station that is situated in the Nilgiris. It
offers spectacular scenic
beauty and bracing climate. The lush vegetation and the
lavender-blue sheen of the mountains here offer a promise
of a summer of peace and rejuvenation
Aptly called the queen of southern hills, Ooty is located
in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The original name of
the place was Udhagamandalam, but with the advent of the
British, it was rechristened as Ooty. Every year, it draws
thousands of tourists who come to Ooty to escape from the
dry and dusty summer days of the plains.
This hilly region
came under the rule of the British East India Company when
it signed a treaty with Tipu Sultan at Srirangapatnam in the
year 1799. It was developed into a hill station on the
initiative of John Sullivan, a District Collector in the
British Raj. A government house was built and a typical
British lifestyle developed with the setting up of cottages
and clubs, with facilities for tennis, golf, and horse
riding. Numerous tea estates make Ooty a great destination
for a honeymoon in India.
Doddabetta Peak: It stands at 2623m high in
the Nilgiri chain of mountains. If your trip is made on a
clear day visible all around you will be Coonoor,
Wellington, Mettupalayam, and Coimbatore. If it's an
exceptionally crisp day, you might even see Mysore.
Botanical
Garden: The se
beautiful gardens have different types of roses, imported
shrubs, rare flowering plants, Eucalyptus trees and several
old trees. One of the main attractions here is the
fossilized tree trunk, which is about 20 million years old.
During the month of May every year, a Summer Festival is
held here. Major attractions of the festival are the flower
shows, the
cultural programs relating to classical arts, and adventure
sports like trekking.
Ooty Lake:
Built in 1825, the 2.5-km-long Ooty Lake is a place worth
visiting. You can go for boating and fishing in this lake.
For fishing you need a prior permission. A racecourse is
also located near the lake. A mini-train takes the visitors
around the lake.
Kodanadu View Point: On the eastern edges of the
Nilgiris, at about 16 km from Kotagiri, lies the Kodanadu
View Point. An exclusive panoramic view of the tea estates
and the Moyar River from either side of the road can be
seen. There is a watchtower from where you can view the
Rangasamy peak and pillar.

Honeymoon in Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal, also known as Kodai is located on the south
crest of Palani hills in the state of Tamil Nadu. A mystic
and rejuvenating holiday hill station, Kodaikanal is
blessed dark deep forests, waterfalls and rocky o utcrops.
The region around Kodaikanal abounds in natural beauty and
splendour. Kodai is a place to relax and the best way to
spend time here is to walk leisurely around the place
appreciating the beauty. There are facilities for boating,
cycling, pony riding, angling, and playing golf.
Kodaikanal Lake : The main attraction of
Kodaikanal is the star shaped lake that spreads over an
area of 60 acres. This tree-fringed lake greets the
tourists and its beautiful sight relaxes them. It is
considered the cool heart of Kodaikanal. The British
Collector, Sir Vere Livinge, formed it by damming the
valley where three streams flowed.
Kodai Club : The club gives the
impression of stepping back into the colonial India. The
lounge with its period fireplace, the piano, the Leigh
Hunt prints, the library stocked with books by Evelyn
Waugh, Anthony Trollope, and the bar with stuffed heads of
bison, tigers, deer-horns, and a picture of the Laughing
Cavalier by Franz Hals, the restaurant with old English
plates, a glowing hearth-fire, and landscape prints, are
all British legacies.
Kodaikanal School : The Kodaikanal
International School has an imposing campus of verdant
manicured lawns, dignified trees and solid stone
buildings. This coeducational, English medium boarding
school, offering a pre-university curriculum in 12 grades,
prepares students for entrance to Indian and worldwide
colleges and universities through the Kodaikanal School
Diploma.
Coaker's Walk : Named after St. Coaker of
the Royal Engineers, this about a kilometer walk from the
lake offers a fantastic view of the plains and the distant
hills. There is a rugged pristine beauty about these
vistas, and the mist rising in veils from the valley
below, gives the place an unreal quality.
